Kelowna is a city located on Okanagan Lake, in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada. One of the most interesting things about this area is the pleasant climate. British Columbia has the misconception of being cold all-year-around. This isn’t the case. The weather is a semi-arid climate. The dry, sunny summers and cold, cloudy winters are popular with residents. The area does have four seasons, resembling many areas in the United States. The moderate climate is the result of Okanagan Lake, the Canadian Rockies, and the Columbia Mountains blocking Arctic air masses.

The forecast

you can expect for the summertime includes temperatures often exceeding 35C. The clear, dry air allows for the temperatures to drop tremendously at night, so be prepared for some chilly evenings. Precipitation is moderate, with the average being 12 inches per year. About 1/3 of the precipitation is received during wintertime in the form of snow. The snow is dry and powdery, so it can be easily cleaned from cars and driveways. December and January are the months with the greatest chance of snowfall and June is the summer month to receive the most rainfall.

Kelowna is a great place to live

As you can see, Kelowna is a great place to live if you are looking for great weather conditions. This is why it is ranked the 22nd largest city in Canada. Our weather averages 300.5 hours of bright and sunny weather in the height of the summer months, while January is the lowest amount with 40.3 hours. The dryness of the climate, the sunny beautiful weather, and the moderate temperatures make Kelowna a great place to live and own a home. Don’t forget about the calmness of the wind. The mountains block the wind, making this area relatively calm. Occasionally, Arctic air masses will penetrate the valley creating short Arctic blasts of air for short amounts of time.
