Why Buy a Lakeview Heights Home?

A Quick Overview

The lifestyle is one of city convenience mixed with the easy and peaceful feeling of lakeside living at its finest. The community is situated on the western shore of Okanagan Lake with local shopping. Or, in just moments, you can reach of the fabulous shopping destinations of West Kelowna and the entertainment opportunities and culture of the Kelowna waterfront.

All of this combines to make it a special place for its residents to call home.

The Lake Views

This area takes its name for a glaringly obvious reason…the spectacular views of Okanagan Lake! Here, the hills gently rise from the lake, offering slightly elevated panoramic views of the lake. The community was built on this ridge, and many of the residents can enjoy these sweeping views from the comfort of home.

This famous view of the lake also draws both tourists and cryptozoologists who try to catch a glimpse of Ogopogo, the mythical sea serpent whose first sighting was reported in the 1800s by the Okanagan people. The creature seen was reportedly 12 to 15 meters long, described as having the body of a serpent and a head like a dinosaur’s.

20th-century sightings also occurred in 1926, when over 30 people reported witnessing Ogopogo rising from the water. In both 1968 and 2005, images of Ogopogo were captured on video. And in 2011, a cell phone video captured a similar image.

While the official statement is that these witnesses saw logs floating on the water or beavers building dams, those who witnessed it have kept the myth alive. Whether you believe in Ogopogo or not, the legend lives on in the Okanagan and delights both the young and young-at-heart alike.

Agricultural Impact

The agricultural properties are important to the area. The elevation of the land in this area and the lakeside soil mix create the perfect environment for orchards and vineyards.

Evidence of this is found in the success of several wineries in the area.

  • Rollingdale Winery
  • Grizzli Winery
  • Beaumont Family Estate Winery
  • Suumerhill Winery
  • Mission Hill Winery

Each of these wineries is worth a visit as each one produces a different blend. Rest assured, all are fantastic!

Small farms and agricultural properties in the area are important to the economy and make Lakeview Heights a more sustainable community.

Lakeview Heights Homes

The properties are more affordably priced than those in other lakeside communities. These homes are on nicely sized lots that are gently sloped and many offer fantastic views of the lake or surrounding hills. While most of the homes are single-family homes, there are also townhomes available for those who prefer the easy living of a townhome.

The area is wildly popular with young families due to the short commutes to work, the highly-acclaimed Central Okanagan School District No 23, and the affordability of the homes. Of course, don’t forget the access to those panoramic lake views and the fun of keeping your eyes open for that elusive sea serpent.

Why Buy a Lake Country Home?

A Quick Overview of Lake Country Homes

About a 30-minute car ride north of Kelowna and a 30-minute ride south of Vernon lies the quiet municipality of Lake Country. The easy commute out to this area takes you to this area of scenic high plateaus with sweeping views of the three surrounding lakes: Lake Okanagan, Woods Lake, and Duck Lake.

In this community, you’re never far from the water. So, if you’re looking for a home that’s close to the water’s edge, a move to Lake Country might feel like a dream come true.

A Fisherman’s Paradise

The waters surrounding Lake Country are filled with the next big catch. Look for:

  • Bigmouth bass
  • Smallmouth bass
  • Rainbow trout
  • Perch
  • Lake trout
  • Whitefish
  • Burbot

It’s not uncommon to hear stories of fish that weigh in at over 9 kg! Is that a fisherman’s story? Maybe or maybe not. Fish the lakes and find out for yourself!

Lake Country Homes

Lake Country homes are amongst the most diverse in the Okanagan.  Their price points range wildly depending on several factors including the proximity to one of the lakes.

Naturally, lakefront homes cost more than those that don’t face the lake. But don’t let that stop you. All homes in Lake Country are less than a 15-minute drive to the water. There are plenty of boat launches with ample parking for your trailer and beaches you can enjoy, even if you don’t live right on the water.

For those who don’t purchase Lake Country waterfront homes, the homes away from the water are often closer to the other amenities in town such as baseball diamonds, playgrounds, and skateboard parks. All of these are well-maintained and appealing to families with children.

Other factors include the age and the size of the home you desire. Most of the Lake Country homes are detached single-family homes with large lot sizes and a price tag to match. However, there are also condominiums and townhomes available that make the dream of living in Lake Country a more affordable reality.

Ellison Homes And Acreages For Sale

Why Buy an Ellison Home?

A Quick Overview

Farms and acreages for sale

You’ll find the charming and rural community called Ellison northeast of Kelowna and approximately halfway up the Okanagan Valley. It’s a community made up of small farms on fertile acreages. Those who choose to call this community home, however, are still within a short 15-minute drive to all the cultural attractions and shopping destinations of Kelowna.

Ellison is situated in a valley with Douglas fir forests and an arid grassland ecosystem has streams that run through. This makes it ideal for planting wheat, grains, and grasses that support local stables and horse farms. This is considered Kelowna’s “horse country.” Other agricultural endeavors include wineries and new plans for agritourism.

Frequent Fliers

Those who travel for business frequently will often choose a home in Ellison because it’s adjacent to the Kelowna International Airport, one of Canada’s busiest airports!

Whether you travel for business or pleasure, Kelowna International Airport (YLW) can connect you to Canada’s largest cities (Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver) on non-stop flights. You can fly directly on international flights to the United States (Seattle. WA or Phoenix, AZ) or to the sunny shores of Cabo San Lucas or Cancun, Mexico. For flights to intercontinental destinations, you can conveniently connect through Canada’s larger airports.

YLW airport is dedicated to a growth plan that will continue to serve the increasing needs of area travelers as the Okanagan continues to grow year over year.

The University of British Columbia – Okanagan

Ellison is also just across Highway 97 and a couple minutes due east of The University of British Columbia – Okanagan. Many of Ellison’s residents choose to live here because their commute to work at The University is next to no time at all!

This university serves over 9,000 students. It offers 62 Bachelor’s Degree programs and 19 Graduate School programs. They offer performing arts programs, sports, lectures, and music series. The entertainment options through The University for nearby Ellison residents are almost limitless.

 Provincial Park

Ellison Provincial Park is often described as the “heart” of Ellison’s recreational opportunities. The over 200-hectare forest features countless trails for horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking.

As you’re exploring the numerous trails, keep your eyes and ears open for wildlife. If you’re lucky, you may spot some of the park’s wildlife. Deer, porcupines, and squirrels are frequently sighted by tourists.

The park offers breathtaking views of Okanagan Lake, Kalamalka Lake, and even a romantic waterfall. It’s a very special getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Ellison Homes

The homes are traditionally situated on small acreages and feature extensive open spaces. The properties are moderately priced, especially when you consider the large lot sizes. As you move closer to the airport area, you can also find townhomes and housing developments.

Ellison is perfect for the family who wants a country lifestyle with close access to city amenities, the airport, and the educational opportunities offered by the University. The wide and open expanses of Ellison real estate are appealing to many!
