A Quick Overview

You’ll find the charming and rural community called Ellison northeast of Kelowna and approximately halfway up the Okanagan Valley. It’s a community made up of small farms on fertile acreages. Those who choose to call this community home, however, are still within a short 15-minute drive to all the cultural attractions and shopping destinations of Kelowna.

Ellison is situated in a valley with Douglas fir forests and an arid grassland ecosystem has streams that run through it. This makes it ideal for planting wheat, grains, and grasses that support local stables and horse farms. This is considered Kelowna’s “horse country.” Other agricultural endeavors include wineries and new plans for agritourism.

Frequent Fliers

Those who travel for business frequently will often choose a home in Ellison because it’s adjacent to the Kelowna International Airport, one of Canada’s busiest airports!

Whether you travel for business or pleasure, Kelowna International Airport (YLW) can connect you to Canada’s largest cities (Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver) on non-stop flights. You can fly directly on international flights to the United States (Seattle. WA or Phoenix, AZ) or to the sunny shores of Cabo San Lucas or Cancun, Mexico. For flights to intercontinental destinations, you can conveniently connect through Canada’s larger airports.

YLW airport is dedicated to a growth plan that will continue to serve the increasing needs of area travelers as the Okanagan continues to grow year over year.

The University of British Columbia – Okanagan

Ellison is also just across Highway 97 and a couple of minutes due east of The University of British Columbia – Okanagan. Many of Ellison’s residents choose to live here because their commute to work at The University is next to no time at all!

This university serves over 9,000 students. It offers 62 Bachelor’s Degree programs and 19 Graduate School programs. They offer to perform arts programs, sports, lectures, and music series. The entertainment options through The University for nearby Ellison residents are almost limitless.

 Provincial Park

Ellison Provincial Park is often described as the “heart” of Ellison’s recreational opportunities. The over 200-hectare forest features countless trails for horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking.

As you’re exploring the numerous trails, keep your eyes and ears open for wildlife. If you’re lucky, you may spot some of the park’s wildlife. Deer, porcupines, and squirrels are frequently sighted by tourists.

The park offers breathtaking views of Okanagan Lake, Kalamalka Lake, and even a romantic waterfall. It’s a very special getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Ellison Homes

The homes are traditionally situated on small acreages and feature extensive open spaces. The properties are moderately priced, especially when you consider the large lot sizes. As you move closer to the airport area, you can also find townhomes and housing developments.

Ellison is perfect for the family who wants a country lifestyle with close access to city amenities, the airport, and the educational opportunities offered by the University. The wide and open expanses of Ellison real estate are appealing to many!
