Okanagan Wine Festival

Okanagan BC Wine Valley

The arrival of October in the Okanagan Valley means many things to its residents and visitors. The month brings crisp fall temperatures, hot apple cider, colorful gourds, pumpkins, and of course, Halloween. However, another event that’s worth mentioning in October is the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival. Beginning October 1 and ending October 11, the festival is a celebration of one of the things that make the Okanagan Valley so attractive and marks the fall grape harvest time. This is the 17th year for the festival, and 2014 promises to be a great one. The Westjet Wine Tastings held on October 4th have already sold out, and if you love wine, you can’t miss any part of this beloved festival. Here’s just a few of the ways you can have fun and enjoy yourself at the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival.

Don’t be afraid try new wine.

The point of a wine festival is to celebrate wine, and what better way to do that than by drinking it? You’ll find over 300 wines to sample, sip, and buy at the festival.  Study the event listing, and visit a couple of venues to try new spirits. Over 70 wineries are going to be part of the festival, and you’ll see plenty of options to try. Did you know this event is actually the largest tasting of British Columbia wine throughout all of Canada?

Don’t skip out on the food!

Okanagan Wine Festival features a wide variety of dishes that were chosen to complement the wines available. You’ll have options for snacks, appetizers, and five-course meals. Don’t neglect the food portion of the festival, or you’ll miss some of the best fare in the area. Several events featuring delectable cheeses are part of the festival, including Organic Cheese and Wine: A Natural Pairing and The Blind Wine and Cheese Soiree.

Spread out over 10 days, the festival is a celebration of wine, gourmet food, arts, and education. This is the largest wine festival in the Okanagan region, and if you attend, be sure you visit all the various venues represented in the festival. The festival has been named a Top 100 Event by the American Bus Association for 20 consecutive years, and delivers an experience to remember.  To best enjoy the festival, you should try attending a few venues you’ve never visited before. More than 70 wineries will be offering their best selections, and wouldn’t you hate to miss out?
