The lifestyle is one of city convenience mixed with the easy and peaceful feeling of lakeside living at its finest. The community is situated on the western shore of Okanagan Lake with local shopping. Or, in just moments, you can reach the fabulous shopping destinations of West Kelowna and the entertainment opportunities and culture of the Kelowna waterfront.
All of this combines to make it a special place for its residents to call home.
The Lake Views
This area takes its name for a glaringly obvious reason…the spectacular views of Okanagan Lake! Here, the hills gently rise from the lake, offering slightly elevated panoramic views of the lake. The community was built on this ridge, and many of the residents can enjoy these sweeping views from the comfort of home.
This famous view of the lake also draws both tourists and cryptozoologists who try to catch a glimpse of Ogopogo, the mythical sea serpent whose first sighting was reported in the 1800s by the Okanagan people. The creature seen was reportedly 12 to 15 meters long, described as having the body of a serpent and a head like a dinosaur’s.
20th-century sightings also occurred in 1926, when over 30 people reported witnessing Ogopogo rising from the water. In both 1968 and 2005, images of Ogopogo were captured on video. And in 2011, a cell phone video captured a similar image.
While the official statement is that these witnesses saw logs floating on the water or beavers building dams, those who witnessed it have kept the myth alive. Whether you believe in Ogopogo or not, the legend lives on in the Okanagan and delights both the young and young-at-heart alike.
Agricultural Impact
The agricultural properties are important to the area. The elevation of the land in this area and the lakeside soil mix create the perfect environment for orchards and vineyards.
Evidence of this is found in the success of several wineries in the area.
- Rollingdale Winery
- Grizzli Winery
- Beaumont Family Estate Winery
- Summerhill Winery
- Mission Hill Winery
Each of these wineries is worth a visit as each one produces a different blend. Rest assured, all are fantastic!
Small farms and agricultural properties in the area are important to the economy and make Lakeview Heights a more sustainable community.
