The morning alarm sounded at 5:30 today so I could get to the UBC-Okanagan Athletic breakfast fundraiser. The speaker they brought in was Axel Merckx who's simple but profound message about cycling was just to get on your bicycle, no matter what age you are, level etc., and just enjoy yourself. I felt as though he was talking to me. Also, terrific job Axel pointing out all the places you could have lived in the world and articulating why you chose Kelowna to be your home.
Moms and Dads, if your kids are UBCO athletes and attended this morning's breakfast you can give yourselves a pat on the back because your kids were fantastic hosts and tremendous ambassadors for their university and our city.
The student housing at UBCO consists of residence housing and the rentals are mostly at a complex at Quail Golf course that will have furnished rentals for UBCO students during the winter months and the owners use the condos themselves for summer vacations and enjoy golfing on a great golf course. There is a waking path between UBCO and Quail that is approximately 10 minutes and offers the students an opportunity to go home for lunch or study and relax between classes. We have seen a lot of these condos purchased by parents for there children. If the condo has 2 bedrooms then their student can rent the second bedroom out to a roommate. On graduation the condo can be sold and hopefully if the market conditions are strong then you will get at least your purchase price back making the investment a win for convenience and rent that would have been paid to stay else where.
And finally, hey UBCO, when are you going to build a 50m swimming pool?
