Kelowna Area Neighbourhoods

Big White

Big White Ski Resort offers exceptional downhill and cross country, snowboarding and shoeshoeing complemented by full ski-in, ski- out accommodations and outstanding restaurants - all of which add up to a memorable winter vacation at affordable prices.

The resort's family-friendly and unpretentious ambiance has until now kept the ski resort a hidden gem in BC's sunny Thompson Okanagan region. However, thanks to recent accolades that include Ski Canada magazine's "Best Family Skiing," "Best New Terrain Park" and "Best Intermediate Terrain," the resort has begun to receive much of the acclaim and snow-world attention it deserves.

Big White is a 45-minute drive southeast of Kelowna. The mountain is easy to get to by air, as Kelowna International Airport offers daily non-stops from Vancouver; Calgary, Alberta; Toronto, Ontario; and Seattle, Washington. In fact, Ski Canada magazine named Big White the "Best Place to Fly and Ski on the Same Day" (2006). Shuttle service is available to and from the airport. Big White is well known for terrific powder snow.

Black Mountain

Located about 10 minutes from Orchard Park mall off of Highway 33 on towards Big White Surrounded by excellent mountain views and some lake views. Great place for mountain biking and hiking trails.

Black Mountain is a mixed community of 1970 homes on larger lots and new subdivisions of higher end homes. The local school is:

Carr's Landing

Peace and quiet away from the city. Stunning lakeviews, acreages, orchards and tranquility. Located in Lake Country approximately a 10 minute drive from Highway 97 and 30 minutes from downtown Kelowna.

Dilworth Mountain

Dilworth Mountain is an exclusive community in Kelowna with high end large homes.  Even though it is located 5 minutes from downtown and shopping you are in the midst of nature and will see wildlife if you keep your eyes open. Most homes have views of the city or Okanagan Lake.

Glenmore

Glenmore is a middle class community in the heart of Kelowna with a world class golf course, 3 elementary schools and a middle school.  The average home sells in the $450,000-$500,000 range and is a short bike ride to downtown or the lake. Many orchards dot the landscape with jogging paths and linear parks.

Ellison

Known for its natural beauty and open landscape, Ellison is a bedroom community with a country feel. Ellison predates Kelowna as the first major settlement in the area. Among its most desirable new properties are the homes surrounding The Bear and Quail courses at Okanagan Golf Club.

Joe Riche

Located off Highway 33, Joe Rich is approximently 20 minutes from Kelowna and 20 minutes to Big White Ski Resort. Joe Riche has many acreages and 10 acre parcels of land with single homes are common.

Kelowna North

Kelowna's cultural district is in the heart of Kelowna north, encompassing a six-block radius stretching from Clement Ave in the north to Queensway in the south and bordered by Ellis Street and Water Street on the east and west, respectively. The area features a large concentration of galleries, a professional theatre company, orchestra, restaurants and more. The New Arts Centre, also located in the Cultural District is home to several fine arts organizations. Skyreach Place (home to the Kelowna Rockets), The Grand Okanagan Lakefront Resort and Conference Centre and Lake City Casino are also here.

Lake Country

Away-from-the-city feel offering the enjoyment of a rural lifestyle. Lake Country is located in the heart of the Okanagan, where sun, water, mountains, friendly people and fun all meet. The endless supply of recreation, scenery and quiet country life is home to over 10,000 people.

Lake Country is a municipality made up of four different constituencies: Winfield, the commercial centre of the area; Okanagan Centre, a residential community that lines Okanagan Lake; Oyama, located between and around both Wood Lake and Kalamalka Lakes; and Carr's Landing along Okanagan Lake. As the name Lake Country indicates, the area is surrounded by many lakes. The larger lakes are: Okanagan, Kalamalka, Wood, and Duck, while in the hills to the east lie smaller fishing lakes named Beaver, Dee, Aberdeen, Oyama and many more

North Glenmore

North Glenmore, located approximently 10 minutes from downtown and Orchard Park Mall, was originally apple orchards and farms. When the city expanded in the 1990’s many orchards were rezoned for housing. North Glenmore is now populated with many young families and boasts of 2 elementry schools, a middle school and many parks.

A new community has evolved call Wilden and features many small lakes and unique settings.

Peachland

Peachland is home to many kilometers of unobstructed pebble beaches.  It is the gateway to Glenn Lake, Headwaters Lakes, Silver Lake and Peachland Lake.  Peachland is nestled on the shore of Okanagan Lake and is respectfully tucked into the mountainsides above it. Peachland is a place of natural beauty, charm and over a hundred years of history.

In August join the locals in the Rattlesnake swim across the lake from Rattlesnake Island to Peachland (3 KM) or from Peachland to Rattlesnake Island and back (7 KM).

Peachland was established in 1889 and incorporated January 1, 1909. Population 4900.

Rutland North & South

Rutland is a flat part of town north of the city about 10 minutes by car to the lake and 40 minutes to Big White Ski Resort.  Rutland boasts one of the largest YMCA’s in Western Canada, a leading high school and reasonably affordable housing prices. 

Southeast Kelowna

Southeast Kelowna is home to Gallagher’s Golf Course, Harvest Golf Course and Duffer’s. A great feel of country living within the city.

Shannon Lake

Shannon Lake is home to Shannon lake and the Shannon Lake Golf 18 hole golf course. Olser split level 1970’s homes and new construction homes.

West Kelowna

Located across the lake from Kelowna. Westbank is home to several golf courses and wineries. In 2007 Westbank formed its own municipality

Westside

Located directly across the lake from Kelowna, Westside travels along the lakeshore towards Lake Okanagan Resort and Fintry.
